Agri Evolve works with over 20,000 smallholder farmers, combining advanced processing infrastructure with inclusive sourcing and sustainability practices.

The project with Agri Evolve has been put forward by the World Wide Fund for Nature Netherlands (WWF-NL) as a new project within the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development. WWF-NL manages the DFCD's Origination Facility, together with SNV, a global development partner, to develop new projects for the climate investment fund. WWF-NL intends to sign a €300,000 grant funding agreement with Agri Evolve. Together with WWF's DFCD Regional team and WWF Uganda, they will carry out activities to strengthen institutional capacity, digital traceability, and farmer resilience.

The Challenge

Uganda’s high-altitude coffee landscapes face soil erosion, deforestation, and climate variability. Smallholder farmers struggle with limited access to finance, training, and markets, leaving them vulnerable to climate shocks and price volatility.

The Opportunity

Agri Evolve operates a state-of-the-art coffee facility and collaborates with Agri Hub aggregators to export specialty Arabica to global markets. With DFCD support, the company will integrate climate adaptation into its value chain, expand EUDR-compliant traceability, and scale regenerative farming practices. This will be implemented with close technical supervision from WWF Uganda. WWF Uganda’s 2026–2030 strategy has a strong focus on Green Jobs & Skills; targeting 10,000+ households with sustainable livelihoods, eco-tourism, and nature-based enterprises – especially for youth and women.

Origination Facility Support

The DFCD grant of €300,000 will fund:

  • Institutional Capacity: ESG governance, sustainability reporting, and Train-the-Trainer programs for field officers.

  • Digital Traceability: Polygon mapping, farmer IDs, and GIS-based monitoring for EUDR compliance.

  • Farmer Resilience: Scaling organic and regenerative practices, terracing, and agroforestry.

  • Community Nurseries & Reforestation: Strengthening seedling survival and tree planting programs.

  • Data & Monitoring: Deploying dashboards to track certification and environmental indicators.

“Our support to Agri Evolve marks an important step in accelerating climate-smart agriculture across the Rwenzori region. With this funding, we aim to strengthen the systems, data, and farmer-centred practices that are essential for building a resilient coffee value chain. Agri Evolve’s commitment to sustainability and inclusive growth aligns strongly with the DFCD’s mission, and we look forward to seeing this collaboration enable smallholder farmers to adapt to a changing climate while improving their livelihoods.”

- Kei Moshikaro DFCD Regional Lead for Africa.

Forecasted Impact

The above activities aim to de-risk a larger investment from Triodos, which is expected to unlock the following impact:

  • 3,800 ha under sustainable management.
  • 2,500 smallholders adopting climate-smart practices.
  • 7,000 people from vulnerable groups reached.

“We are delighted to work with the DFCD and WWF to scale our climate-smart coffee initiatives across the Rwenzori Mountains. This support will enable us to deepen our engagement with farmers, strengthen traceability across our supply chain, and expand the regenerative practices that are vital for the long-term sustainability of the region. Our goal has always been to create a coffee sector where farmers can thrive, and this partnership helps us move even closer to that vision.”

– Jonny Rowland, Founder & Managing Director, Agri Evolve.

Looking Ahead

This project will position Agri Evolve as a leader in climate-smart coffee, creating a replicable model for inclusive, sustainable agribusiness in Uganda.
